Which broad assessment is the right starting point?
A Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Assessment is often the best starting point for longstanding differences in development, attention, communication or learning.
It considers the person’s broader pattern, including questions about ADHD, autism, cognitive abilities and learning.
We will recommend the assessment that gives us enough information to answer the questions properly without unnecessarily repeating assessment work you have already completed.
Mental health
A Mental Health Assessment may be more appropriate when the main concerns are emotional, behavioural or psychiatric difficulties. This can include anxiety, low mood, OCD or trauma-related symptoms.
When both overlap
A combined assessment can look at both areas when longstanding neurodevelopmental differences overlap with significant mental health difficulties.
A broad assessment of ADHD, autism, learning, cognitive abilities and development.

What could make the price change?
The package fee covers the standard assessment pathway described in your package. There are only two common reasons you might pay more.
We will explain the reason and the exact additional cost before anything extra is booked.
1
More appointment time is needed
Some people, especially younger children, need assessment spread over more appointments because of fatigue, attention, distress, behaviour or communication needs. Each package clearly shows how many assessment appointments are included. If more appointments are needed, we will explain why and the cost before anything additional is booked.
2
You choose to investigate another question
For example, a focused ADHD assessment might identify a separate question about learning. We will explain what additional assessment could tell you and what it costs. You decide whether to add it.
✓
Scoring and report writing do not appear later as extra fees
The questionnaires, assessment tools, scoring, interpretation, report and feedback listed in your package are already included.
A straightforward assessment pathway
Step 01
Tell us what you want to understand
You do not need to know which assessment you need. Tell us what you are noticing and what has prompted the enquiry.
Step 02
Have the initial session
We take a developmental history, clarify the questions the assessment needs to answer and confirm the right package before testing begins.
Step 03
Gather the assessment information
Depending on the package, this may involve interviews, questionnaires, information from school, family or other relevant people, observation and standardised testing.
Step 04
Score and interpret the results
We score each measure and bring the results together with the history and other information collected. This clinical interpretation helps us understand the overall pattern, not just individual test scores.
Step 05
Review the findings and recommendations
We review the evidence, conclusions and practical recommendations before the report is finalised. For provisional assessments, a Clinical Psychologist also reviews and co-signs the report.
Step 06
Receive the report and attend the final session
You receive the full written report, then meet with us to discuss the findings, practical recommendations and next steps.
Three ways to have your assessment done
You receive the full assessment package whichever psychologist you choose: the agreed assessment, a written report and a feedback appointment.
The report can be shared when seeking support at school, university, work or through the NDIS. Each school, workplace, university and government program has its own rules about the evidence it accepts, so tell us what you need the report for when you enquire.
All three options provide a careful, high-quality assessment. What changes is the psychologist’s stage of registration, the supervision involved, availability and price.
Provisional psychologist
The full assessment, with clinical psychologist review and co-sign-off.
Your provisional psychologist completes the interviews, testing and report. A clinical psychologist reviews the report, conclusions and recommendations, then co-signs it with them.
This is usually our lowest-fee option and often has the best availability. The lower fee reflects the psychologist’s stage of registration, not a smaller assessment or a lower-quality report.
Registered psychologist
The full assessment, completed independently by a fully registered psychologist.
Your registered psychologist completes the interviews, testing and report, and signs the report themselves. They can discuss the findings with colleagues when another view would help.
This option suits most people and most assessment questions. It may also suit you if you would prefer to work with a psychologist who already holds full general registration.
Clinical psychologist
The full assessment, with additional postgraduate training in clinical psychology.
A clinical psychologist completes and signs the assessment and report independently. Their additional training may be useful when significant mental health concerns, trauma or several possible explanations need to be considered together.
Availability is limited and the fee is higher. A clinical psychologist is not required simply to receive a thorough assessment or a useful report. We will tell you if their additional training is likely to add value in your situation.
Before you book
Open only the questions that matter to you.
Standardised assessment can be tiring, particularly for younger children. Some people need shorter sessions, more breaks, time to settle in, or additional support because of attention, distress, behaviour or communication needs. We would rather pace the assessment appropriately than push through testing when the results may no longer be useful. If additional appointments are needed beyond those included in the package, we will explain why and the cost before booking them.
Yes. The report, scoring, interpretation and feedback appointment listed in the package are included. We do not add separate report-writing or scoring fees later.
No. The purpose is to find the best explanation for the difficulties, not to guarantee a diagnosis. Sometimes criteria are met, sometimes meaningful difficulties are present without meeting full criteria, and sometimes another explanation fits better.
Usually not. You can contact us directly about most psychological assessments. If another professional has recommended assessment, their referral or letter can be useful background information.
Previous psychology, paediatric, psychiatry, speech pathology or occupational therapy reports can be useful, as can school reports, learning support plans and previous testing. Do not worry if you do not have these.
Sometimes. Assessment can provide useful information about diagnosis, strengths, difficulties, functional impact and recommended supports. Requirements differ between schools, universities, workplaces and NDIS pathways, so tell us what you need the assessment for when you enquire.
Generally, no. Medicare does not usually provide rebates for private psychological assessment packages, including autism, ADHD, cognitive or learning assessments. In some limited circumstances, a paediatrician or psychiatrist may refer a person under 25 for specific assessment services under the Medicare complex neurodevelopmental pathway for additional assessment. Even where a Medicare rebate is available, it generally applies only to part of the assessment process and would cover only a small proportion of the total assessment cost. Other components, such as scoring, interpretation, report preparation and additional assessment work, do not attract a Medicare rebate.
Tell us what you are noticing.
We can help you work out whether assessment is useful, which package fits the question, who is appropriate to see, and what it will cost.
