About CPSA · Established 2010

Psychology, closer to home.

Clinical Psychology Services Australia began with a local need: people in Port Stephens were travelling to Newcastle to see a clinical psychologist.

Today, we offer therapy and assessment for children, teenagers and adults at our Medowie and Wyee clinics, and through telehealth.

Our beginnings

A local practice, built around a local need.

Getting help already asks a lot of someone. Laura wanted people in her community to be able to see a clinical psychologist without having to travel to Newcastle.

  1. 2010

Opening the doors in Port Stephens

On 1 July 2010, Laura opened Port Stephens Clinical Psychology Services. Heavily pregnant at the time, she began practising a few days a week.

  2. 2019

    Reaching the Central Coast

Central Coast Clinical Psychology Services began at Hamlyn Terrace Community Centre, where Laura started offering appointments to the surrounding community.

  3. Today

    One team across two communities

The practices came together as Clinical Psychology Services Australia. With a permanent clinic in Wyee alongside Medowie, our team supports people across Port Stephens, the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.

What this means for you

Room to be heard.
Help you can understand.

You might be looking for support through a difficult time, or trying to understand something that has been affecting you or your child for years. We start with what has brought you here.

Your circumstances come first

We take time to understand your concerns, relationships and day-to-day life. With children and teenagers, we discuss how parents or carers can be involved.

Evidence informs the work

Our psychologists draw on evidence-based approaches and work with you on a plan that fits your needs. We explain what we recommend and why.

Differences are treated with respect

Our approach is trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming. That means considering your experiences and recognising strengths and support needs, rather than expecting everyone to think or respond in the same way.

You know what happens next

We discuss how sessions work, confidentiality and its limits, and the next steps. Our reception team can help with practical questions about appointments, fees and referrals.

The people behind CPSA

Experience shared across the team.

Laura brings more than 25 years of experience working with individuals, couples, children and families.

Her clinical work is grounded in attachment theory and trauma-informed practice. As a Board-approved supervisor, she also supports psychologists and provisional psychologists through supervision and mentoring.

That teaching role is part of life at CPSA. Experienced clinicians work alongside emerging psychologists, with supervision and ongoing professional development supporting their practice.

Our team has different areas of interest, age groups and approaches. You can read their profiles to get a sense of who might suit you, or ask reception for help choosing.
