FAQ’S
General
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment will be the opportunity for you to tell your clinician your story and collaborate with them to come up with some goals for your therapeutic journey. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out the forms required.
Why charge a cancellation fee?
We understand that life happens, and we are more than happy to reschedule your appointment, but we require 24 hours’ notice. We know it can be uncomfortable to be charged a cancellation fee, and please know it is not our preference to charge it. However, it’s important to consider that our clinicians still need to be paid for their time and that this time set aside for you cannot be filled if we are not given sufficient notice.
Before commencing sessions, you will be given a copy of our cancellation policy and be required to sign to say you have read and understood the policy. Additionally, you will receive a reminder text message 4 days before your session and we ask that you reply to confirm or cancel your appointment outside the 24-hour window to avoid being charged a cancellation fee.
Rebates
How do I receive my Medicare rebate?
Our admin team will process the Medicare rebate on your behalf after payment is made. This payment will be made into your chosen bank account through Medicare. Please allow at least 1-3 business days for rebates to be deposited into your account.
Do you accept private health funds?
If you have psychology cover, you can use your private health fund to claim back a portion of your fee. We don’t have a HICAPS facility on site, but we can provide you a receipt so you can make a claim through your health fund. Please note that you cannot claim through Medicare and your private health fund together for one appointment.
Provisional Psychologists
What is a Provisional Psychologist?
Provisional psychologists are our emerging clinicians in training. They have completed an accredited tertiary degree in Psychology and are undertaking supervised practice to develop their applied skills. Our provisional psychologists at CPSA are under the supervision and tutelage of our clinical psychologist Laura. They are registered through AHPRA to provide psychological services to the community.
Can I receive Medicare/Private Health rebates with a provisional psychologist?
At this stage, Provisional psychologists are unable to be registered as Medicare providers until they achieve full registration. You will also not be able to claim appointments with a provisional psychologist using your private health fund as a Medicare provider number is required to access rebates. This is why we have made accessing our provisional psychologists more affordable.
Can I use funding from a third-party with a Provisional Psychologist such as NDIS or Workcover?
You are able to utilise your NDIS funding with our provisional psychologists and they have the capacity to take on NDIA, Plan and Self-Managed participants. We also offer a discounted fee to see our provisional psychologists under the NDIS so that you can make the most of your funding.
At this stage, Provisional Psychologists cannot see clients under Workcover/CTP, Victims of Crime and DVA.
Assessments
Why isn’t there an exact cost for assessments?
Given that each person is unique, we take a more individualised approach with our assessments. You will have an initial session with a clinician to discuss you/your child’s presenting problems and history. From there, a comprehensive assessment plan that will be tailored to you or your child’s needs will be formulated which will include an approximate quote.
How does the assessment process work?
After your initial session, we will organise how the assessment process will be completed. The number of sessions required will depend on the complexity of the assessment. After the assessment process is completed, your clinician will write a report outlining the findings of the assessment and recommendations going forward. Once this report is completed, you will be invited back for an assessment feedback session. This is where your clinician will explain the results and recommendations of your assessment in an easy-to-understand way, and you will collaborate with them to set up a plan moving forward.
